Landing in Morocco is the easy part. Getting from the terminal to your hotel, the coast, or the Atlas Mountains without wasting time or overpaying is where smart planning makes all the difference. This guide breaks down everything you need to know about airport car rental across Morocco, from pricing and paperwork to choosing the right vehicle and avoiding hidden fees, all through RentalMe's marketplace.
RentalMe is a Moroccan marketplace platform that lets you compare airport car rental offers from dozens of verified professional agencies in minutes. Instead of walking from one rental counter to the next after a long flight, you handle the entire process online before you land.
Here is how it works, step by step:
Search your airport. Enter your arrival airport - Casablanca Mohammed V (CMN), Marrakech Menara (RAK), Rabat-Salé (RBA), Tangier Ibn Battuta (TNG), Agadir Al Massira (AGA), Ouarzazate (OZZ), or Fes-Saïs (FEZ) - along with your travel dates.
Compare offers. RentalMe displays car rental rates from multiple agencies side by side, including insurance options, deposit amounts, fuel policies, and mileage terms.
Choose your vehicle type. Filter by category (city car, SUV, van, automatic transmission) to narrow results.
Confirm options. Select extras like GPS, child seat, or additional driver. Review the full cost, not just the base rate.
Pay securely. Complete your reservation with secure online payment in MAD or EUR.
Receive instant confirmation. Your voucher includes precise meeting instructions - terminal door, parking level, or shuttle pickup point.
Renting a car at an airport usually takes 15 to 30 minutes for paperwork once you arrive at the desk. Having your RentalMe confirmation ready cuts that time significantly because the agency already has your details. You rent from professional local agencies, but manage everything centrally through RentalMe's website.
The question every traveler asks after landing: should I rent a car or just grab a taxi? The answer depends on how long you are staying and how much ground you plan to cover.
Cost comparison. A taxi from Casablanca Mohammed V to the city center runs approximately 250–300 MAD one way. Renting a small car for one or two days costs roughly 200–250 MAD per day in low season - giving you unlimited trips, not just one.
Multi-city flexibility. Itineraries like Casablanca–Rabat–Kenitra–Tangier, or Marrakech–Ouarzazate–Merzouga, rely on highways and mountain roads where public transport is slower, less direct, and runs on limited schedules. A rental vehicle puts you in control.
Explore at your own pace. Beaches south of Agadir, medinas in Fes, villages tucked into the Atlas Mountains - none of these run on bus timetables. When you rent a car, detours become part of the trip instead of logistical nightmares.
When taxis still win. Very short stays (one-night stopovers), late-night arrivals with an early-morning departure, or trips where you only need a single transfer from the airport to a hotel - in those cases, a taxi is simpler and may cost less overall.
RentalMe covers most locations and major international airport car rental hubs across the country. Here are the key airport locations with on-site or nearby rental services:
Casablanca Mohammed V (CMN)
Marrakech Menara (RAK)
Rabat-Salé (RBA)
Tangier Ibn Battuta (TNG)
Agadir Al Massira (AGA)
Fes-Saïs (FEZ)
Ouarzazate (OZZ)
Nador (NDR)
Laayoune (EUN)
Dakhla (VIL)
At most locations, large car rental companies like Hertz, Avis, and Sixt maintain desks inside the terminal. Smaller local agencies often operate from nearby locations a few minutes away, offering a free or low-cost shuttle to their lot. These off-terminal agencies frequently offer lower prices since they avoid the airport facility fees passed on to renters.
Many RentalMe partner agencies also have city center branches. This means you can pick up at the airport and drop off downtown - or the reverse - depending on availability. Comparing off-airport locations can result in significant savings on rental costs, which is why RentalMe shows both options side by side.
Knowing exactly what to expect at a Moroccan international airport removes most of the stress from the rental process.
Land and collect luggage. Clear immigration and customs, then head to arrivals.
Find the rental counter or meeting point. If your agency is inside the terminal, follow signs to the rental counter area. If they are off-site, look for shuttle signs or the meeting instructions on your RentalMe confirmation voucher.
Present your documents. Show your reservation voucher, valid driving license, passport or national ID, and credit card for the deposit. Sign the rental agreement and review the rental contract carefully - insurance coverage, fuel policy, mileage limits, and return time.
Inspect the vehicle. This step is critical. Take photos of any existing damage on the rental car before leaving the lot. Check body panels, tires, lights, and windshield. Inspects and documents all aspects of a rental car before departure. Photograph the fuel gauge.
Drive out. Follow airport exit signs and you are on your way.
Pick-up arrangements should be made 24 hours in advance to ensure your vehicle is ready when you land.
Follow "Car Rental Return" or parking signs to the agency's designated zone.
An agent inspects the car in your presence - body condition, interior, fuel level.
Hand over the key and receive a return confirmation. Keep it until your deposit is released.
Some agencies provide after-hours key drop boxes, but always photograph the car at return time regardless. Always review pickup and return times to avoid extra charges, since rental pricing is typically based on 24-hour periods. Returning even one hour late may trigger an additional charge for a full extra day.
Airport car rental prices in Morocco shift with season, demand, and how far ahead you book. The difference can be dramatic.
Book early for high season. For July–August, Eid, and New Year travel, book your rental car 56 days in advance. Booking early increases vehicle choice and offers, especially for automatic transmission cars and SUVs that sell out fast.
Last-minute markup. Walking up to a desk at the airport after landing typically means higher prices and limited availability. Agencies know you have fewer options, and you will pay for it.
Concrete example. A city car at Marrakech Menara airport costs roughly 150–180 MAD per day in February (low season). The same category in July can reach 300–320 MAD per day - nearly double. Shoulder seasons (April–June, September–October) sit in between, offering 20–40% savings over peak months.
January is the cheapest month to rent a car, with some deals dropping below 200 MAD per day for economy categories.
Secure a refundable reservation early to take advantage of price drops. If rates decrease after you book, you can rebook at the lower rate and cancel the original. RentalMe lets you compare dozens of offers instantly, making early booking easier than negotiating at a single desk after landing.
Matching the right car to your trip saves money and avoids headaches. Here is a quick breakdown by category:
Mini / city cars (Kia Picanto, Dacia Sandero): Small cars like Dacia Sandero are popular rentals for a reason - they are fuel-efficient, easy to park in tight medina streets, and the cheapest rental cars available. Small rental cars are 38% cheaper than other types on average.
Medium / compact cars: Medium cars offer a good balance of space and value, fitting two to three passengers plus luggage comfortably for highway driving.
SUVs / 4×4s (Dacia Duster, Hyundai Tucson): Essential for Atlas Mountains passes, desert pistes, and rough rural roads. SUV rentals typically cost around $51 per day.
Family MPVs and 9-seater vans: Vans are ideal for families needing maximum passenger capacity. A Renault Trafic is perfect for groups of five or more landing at Casablanca or Marrakech and planning a North–South road trip.
Pickup trucks: Pickup trucks are suitable for hauling gear or outdoor adventures, especially in southern Morocco's rugged terrain or when heading toward the Draa Valley.
If you are a couple exploring a single city, a small car is all you need. If you are six people crossing the Atlas Mountains to the Sahara, skip the sedan and go straight for an SUV or van.

Before you can hire a vehicle rented from any Moroccan agency, you need to meet several requirements.
Minimum age. Most car rental agencies require a minimum age of 21 with at least one year of driving experience for economy and compact categories. For SUVs, 4×4s, and premium vehicles, expect a minimum of 23 years and two years of license experience. Some companies apply a young-driver fee for renters under 25.
License and ID. You need a valid national driving license. If your license uses a non-Latin alphabet, obtain an international driving permit before traveling. Bring your passport or national ID as well.
Credit card. A credit card in the main driver's name is required at most locations. Some agencies accept debit cards under stricter conditions, but virtual or prepaid cards are generally not accepted.
Deposit amount. The deposit is a pre-authorized hold on your card, not an outright charge. For a small car, expect around 14,000 MAD. For SUVs and vans, the hold can rise to 20,000–34,000 MAD depending on the rental company and category. Deductibles for damage can range from 14,000 MAD to 36,000 MAD.
RentalMe filters and individual car pages clearly show age and license conditions before you complete your booking, so there are no surprises at the counter.
Airport rentals can cost 10% to 30% more than city center pickups due to facility fees. Airports often charge local facility fees and tourism fees for car rentals, and agencies pass these on. But smart planning offsets this premium easily.
Key price drivers to account for:
Season. High season (July–August, holidays) inflates prices across all categories. Low season and shoulder months deliver the best deals.
Car category. Smaller is cheaper. Moving from a city car to a compact sedan to an SUV increases costs substantially.
Transmission. Manual cars cost less than automatics because supply is larger.
Booking timing. As covered above, advance booking saves 30–50% compared to walk-up rates.
One-way fees. Dropping off the car at a different location than pickup triggers an additional charge.
Young driver surcharges. Under-25 fees can add 30–50 MAD per day.
Check for mileage restrictions when renting vehicles - some agencies offer unlimited kilometers, others cap daily mileage and charge per excess kilometer.
Utilize aggregator tools to track price drops and coupon codes for rentals. On RentalMe, you can filter by manual transmission, flexible pick up time, and smaller car class to surface the cheapest rental cars. Instead of checking each car rental company separately, compare everything in one location.
The convenience of grabbing your car right at the terminal comes at a cost premium. Here is when each option makes sense:
Airport pick up is best when:
You arrive late at night or very early in the morning
You have a tight schedule with no time to visit a downtown office
You are traveling with kids or heavy luggage and want to minimize transfers
Your trip starts immediately (e.g., driving straight to the surrounding area or another city)
City center pick up is best when:
You plan to spend your first night in the city anyway and can pick up the car the next day
You want to save money on facility fees - city branch rates are often 20–30% lower
You are in a city like Kenitra, where station or city center pick up is more practical than a small regional airport
RentalMe lets users compare airport offers with nearby locations in the same city, making it easy to see the price difference and choose the best value.
Not all Moroccan airports function the same way for car rental, and some destinations require a different approach.
Ouarzazate is the gateway to the desert, the Draa Valley, and famous film studios. Ouarzazate Airport has car rental companies like Sixt and Budget on site. Europcar has locations in Ouarzazate city center and airport. Avis, Yacout Tours, and Payless have two locations in Ouarzazate as well.
Inventory is limited compared to Casablanca or Marrakech, so book in advance via RentalMe. Here is what to expect on prices:
The cheapest rental car in Ouarzazate is $15.95 per day (Keddy by Europcar offers rentals starting at $15.95 per day)
Small car rentals cost around $31 per day in Ouarzazate, and small cars are 35% cheaper than the average rental in Ouarzazate
Medium car rentals average $42 per day in Ouarzazate
SUV rentals typically cost around $51 per day in Ouarzazate
January is the cheapest month to rent a car at $25 per day
Kenitra does not rely on a major international airport. Most visitors land at Rabat-Salé or Casablanca, then travel north. Kenitra car rental is best handled through train station or city center agencies. Kenitra train station is a major transit point in Morocco, and Hertz operates a rental agency at Kenitra train station - making it easy to step off the train and pick up your car.
RentalMe covers smaller airports and hubs like Ouarzazate, Nador, and Oujda, as well as land gateways such as Tangier Med port. This makes multi-city itineraries easier to plan. A traveler arriving at Casablanca's airport can still connect to Kenitra via highway or rail with a rental car booked through the same platform.
Understanding insurance and fuel rules before you sign anything at the counter avoids expensive surprises.
Most rental providers offer insurance options, but insurance coverage levels can differ substantially between providers. Here is the typical structure:
Basic coverage (included). Third-party liability is standard and required by Moroccan law.
Collision damage waiver (CDW). Collision damage waiver is commonly included in rental agreements, but verify this - it reduces what you pay if the car is damaged in an accident.
Optional protections. Theft waiver, glass and tire coverage, and roadside assistance can be added. You can opt for additional coverage to limit financial liability.
Before you purchase extras, check if your personal credit card provides collision damage waiver coverage. Some premium cards cover this automatically when you pay for the rental with that card. Confirm the rental company's insurance coverage before declining counter policies.
Always opt for a "full-to-full" fuel policy for simplicity - you pick up with a full tank and return it full.
Returning a rental car with a half-empty tank incurs high refuel charges, sometimes double the pump price plus a service fee.
Photograph the fuel gauge at pick up and again at return. This protects you from disputes.
