Oujda-Angads Airport or city centre: this guide explains how to rent a car in Oujda step by step. Choosing a vehicle, what to check with the agency and ideas for exploring the Oriental region.
Oujda, in north-eastern Morocco, is the main city of the Oriental region. Whether you are a traveller, a Moroccan living abroad coming home, or on a business trip, car rental in Oujda gives you the freedom to move between the airport, the city centre, the Mediterranean coast and the inland countryside without relying on taxis or coaches.
RentalMe is the Moroccan marketplace for renting vehicles from professional agencies. This guide explains how to rent a car in Oujda, at the airport or in town, and how to choose the right vehicle for your trip.
Whichever agency you choose, a rental usually follows four steps:
Oujda-Angads Airport serves the city and its region. After landing, the process is standard: passport control, baggage claim, then head to the agency desk or the meeting point shown in your confirmation.
Before you arrive, check the exact pick-up location with the agency: some have a desk in the terminal, others arrange a key handover outside the building. Also let the agency know if your flight lands late or is delayed.
Return conditions (same location, end-of-rental hours) vary from one agency to another. Confirm this when you book.
If you arrive by train or coach, or you are already staying in town, renting in the city saves you a trip to the airport.
Several situations make this option worthwhile. A Moroccan living abroad staying with family will prefer to collect the car close to home. A student who needs a car for a weekend will find an agency near their accommodation more practical. A business traveller saves time by renting near their meeting place.
Parking around the medina needs some attention. Ask your accommodation whether it offers private parking or whether there is a car park nearby.
Some agencies allow pick-up in town and return at the airport, or the other way round. Check this option directly in the offer before confirming.
City car. Ideal for town: the streets near the souks and the medina are narrow, and a small car makes parking easier.
Compact or saloon. A versatile choice for combining the city centre with trips around the Oriental, with more comfort for passengers and luggage.
Family car or MPV. Recommended for large families or Moroccans living abroad travelling with lots of luggage.
SUV. Higher driving position and more ground clearance for secondary roads.
Light van. Useful for a move, transporting equipment or an occasional business need. Load and insurance conditions should be checked with the agency.
The final choice depends on the number of passengers, the amount of luggage, the type of roads and your total budget (rental, fuel, insurance and extras).
Prices vary with the season and the vehicle category. Book ahead if you are travelling at busy times, such as summer or school holidays.
Before confirming, read the rental conditions and ask the agency about:
Carry out a detailed inspection at pick-up and return. Take photos of the outside and inside of the vehicle: this helps if there is a disagreement when you return it.
On the road, follow the highway code and keep your driving licence, rental contract and the agency's contact details with you.
With a rental car, Oujda and the Oriental open up at your own pace. Start with Oujda's medina and Bab Sidi Abdelwahab to wander the souks, then take a break in Lalla Meryem Park.
Beyond the city, the Mediterranean coast around Saïdia is perfect for a day trip or a weekend. The Berkane area, with its orchards and villages, shows a more rural side of the Oriental. Nador is another possible stop in the east of the country.
For a long drive to other regions of Morocco, check with your agency for any geographical restrictions in the contract.
RentalMe brings together professional rental agencies in Morocco. The aim: let you review vehicles, conditions and agency information so you can choose with confidence, instead of contacting agencies one by one.

Reviews left by other renters are useful before choosing an agency. Look at several criteria: vehicle cleanliness, punctuality at key handover, clarity of conditions and quality of service.
A single review may reflect an exceptional situation; the recent trend is what counts. If several customers mention the same point, positive or negative, that is a reliable signal. After your rental, take a few minutes to leave your own review. Find more tips on the RentalMe blog.
