Car rental in Al Hoceima gives you freedom to explore the Rif. Learn how to find a rental car with RentalMe, which terms to check and what to discover nearby.
For many travellers from Europe, Al Hoceima is a go-to destination in the Rif. Whether you are visiting family, holidaying on the Mediterranean or heading into the mountains, car rental in Al Hoceima gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace. This guide explains how to find a rental car through RentalMe, what to check when booking, and what you can discover in and around Al Hoceima by car.
RentalMe is the Moroccan marketplace where you rent a vehicle from professional rental agencies. No need to search each company separately: you find agencies' offers in one place, anywhere in Morocco.
In Al Hoceima you broadly have two pick-up options: Cherif Al Idrissi Airport (AHU) or the city itself. The exact options depend on the rental agency.
Prices vary by season, vehicle type and agency. That is why this article does not quote fixed amounts: always check the current terms of the offer you choose.
This guide is for holidaymakers, travellers visiting family in the Rif and anyone who wants to explore the region independently.
Al Hoceima is a Mediterranean coastal city and popular with families from Europe who have roots in the region. With a rental car you can combine beaches, mountains and villages in one trip without relying on taxis.
Think of outings to Ajdir, Torres de Alcalá, Cala Iris or smaller villages in the Rif hinterland: places that are much easier to reach with your own car.
A rental car is also practical if you travel with plenty of luggage and gifts for family. Choose a small car for the city, or a mid-size car if you are travelling with family and suitcases.
Cherif Al Idrissi Airport is Al Hoceima's airport and, for many travellers, the gateway to the Rif.
Why an airport pick-up can be practical:
Depending on the agency, you collect the car at a desk or at an agreed meeting point. Let the agency know if your flight is delayed.
Demand is higher in summer and during school holidays. Book early in those periods to get more choice. If a city pick-up suits you better, ask whether the agency offers it.
Around Al Hoceima you will drive narrow city streets, coastal roads and winding mountain roads in the Rif. Which type of car suits your plans?
Small car – Ideal for couples or solo travellers with little luggage. Easy to park in town and nimble on narrow roads.
Mid-size car – More comfort and boot space, suitable for families or longer coastal drives. Plenty of room for suitcases and gifts for family.
SUV – Useful if you carry lots of luggage and want to combine the city with mountain villages; you sit higher and drive comfortably on hilly roads.
Air conditioning is welcome in summer. Always pick a car that fits the number of passengers and the amount of luggage, and compare the total budget: rental, fuel, insurance and any extras.

Terms differ by agency and by offer. Always read them carefully before booking and ask the agency directly if anything is unclear. Check at least:
Driving licence and documents – Ask which documents the agency requires and whether age requirements apply.
Additional drivers – Will several people drive? Ask how to add an additional driver and whether there is a charge.
Deposit and payment – Ask in advance about the deposit amount, payment method and currency.
Insurance – See which cover is included, how high the excess is and which additional options exist.
Returning elsewhere – Want to drop the car off somewhere else? Ask whether that is possible and whether extra fees apply.
Cancellation – Check the cancellation terms of your booking.
Good preparation saves stress, especially after a flight.
At pick-up:
Photos or video – Photograph the bodywork, wheels and interior at pick-up and return. This avoids disputes later.
Fuel – Check the fuel level on departure and follow the agreed fuel policy, including on return.
Delays or changes – Contact the agency as soon as possible.
