Larache is a calm base for exploring Lixus, Asilah, Tangier and the Atlantic beaches. Here is how to compare local agencies on RentalMe, what to check in each listing and what to expect on the road.
If you are planning a trip along Morocco's Atlantic coast, car rental Larache is the easiest way to discover the medina, the port, the ruins of Lixus, Asilah, Tangier and the nearby beaches at your own pace. Larache is a quiet town where the Loukkos river meets the sea, with archaeological remains, genuine souks and streets made for unhurried walking. With a car you can combine the town, the countryside and the coastal villages in a single trip. On RentalMe you compare offers from professional local agencies, choose the type of vehicle and confirm your booking online. This guide covers the practical side: how to choose a car, where to pick it up, what to check before booking and what driving in the area is like.
Larache has no commercial airport of its own. Many travellers arrive from Tangier or from elsewhere in Morocco and prefer to have their rental arranged before they reach the coast.
The process on RentalMe is straightforward: enter Larache as your search location, choose your pick-up and drop-off dates, and compare offers from different local agencies. You can filter by vehicle type — economy, compact, saloon, SUV or something with room for bulky luggage — and confirm the booking online. RentalMe is a marketplace that connects you with vetted professional agencies: it does not own the cars, it makes finding and booking with local providers easier.
Booking online helps you secure the vehicle you actually want, which matters in high season when availability moves quickly. Every listing sets out the agency's own conditions, so it is worth reading them before you confirm. If you run a rental agency yourself and want to list your fleet on the platform, you can look at the pricing for agencies.
The right vehicle depends on your kind of trip and how many passengers you have, children included if you are travelling as a family. Economy and compact cars handle central Larache comfortably; a saloon is pleasant if you plan to pair the town with Asilah and Tangier; and an SUV gives you peace of mind for more open beaches or rural areas with bulky luggage.
A few practical points to settle before you book:
On fuel: agencies apply different policies, such as full-to-full or half-tank arrangements. Check which one applies to your booking and how you are expected to return the car, so nothing catches you out at the end. Comparing this across a few offers tells you exactly what you are signing up for.
Routes that work particularly well with your own car: a morning at Lixus, a run up to Asilah along the coast road, or an unhurried day at the Moulay Bousselham lagoons.
Document and payment requirements are set by each agency and differ from one to the next. On RentalMe, every listing spells out which documents the provider asks for, which payment methods it accepts and how it handles the deposit, so it is worth reading closely before you confirm. If anything is unclear, the quickest route is to ask the agency directly through the platform.
It is also worth checking what each offer does and does not include in terms of cover and extras, and clearing up any questions with the provider before you collect the car. The RentalMe FAQ answers the questions that come up most often about bookings.
Driving in Larache is calm in the centre, with a little more going on around the port. Morocco drives on the right. Outside town, the sense of freedom grows as soon as you turn onto the coast road.
Before you set off, spend a few minutes going over the car with the agency: tyres, lights, spare wheel and any existing dents or scratches, which are worth noting down. In the medina, watch for pedestrians and scooters — drive calmly and read the road ahead.
For parking, ask at your accommodation about somewhere secure; attended car parks are common in many Moroccan towns. Take extra care at dusk and after dark on secondary roads, where unlit pedestrians, bicycles and animals can appear. If you are planning a longer route through the country, the RentalMe blog has more guides on itineraries and on renting in other cities.
